Bags of Creativity

Alison Smith

Six fun creative activities you can do from home using basic materials, perfect for school holidays.

Bags of Creativity is a fantastic campaign providing vulnerable children and young people across Yorkshire with creative activities and inspiring materials, run by IVE and the Local Cultural Education Partnerships across Yorkshire. With activities contributed by artists and cultural organisations, the project will distribute 8000 bags containing art materials and a set of specially designed postcards filled with creative ways to use the contents of the bag.

We’ve contributed three postcard activities to the Leeds bags; one based on our Bumpman drawing competition, and two new sculpture activities designed especially for the contents of the bags. Our friends next door at Leeds Art Gallery also created postcards based on three paintings from their collection.

All the activity postcards created for Bags of Creativity will be available soon on IVE’s website, but in the meantime you can find the activities made by Henry Moore Institute and Leeds Art Gallery here, and download a pdf to use at home. They were created with three age ranges in mind (2-6 yrs, 7-11 yrs and 12 - 16 yrs) but these are just a guide! We’ve also included a list of suggested materials, but feel free to improvise with whatever you have at home.
