A new opening date for 'This Living Hand' at Henry Moore Studios & Gardens

Tuesday, 7 April 2020

There’s a kind of irony that, in these days of social distancing, we were supposed to be opening an exhibition so intimately connected with the theme of touch.

Artist, author and curator of the exhibition, Edmund de Waal placed Moore’s words ‘tactile experience is very important as an aesthetic dimension in sculpture’ at the heart of his exhibition which was due to explore the iconography of the hand in Moore’s works and intended to encourage visitors to touch sculptural works in our gallery.

Our Collections team and de Waal’s studio have considered how best to deliver This Living Hand: Edmund de Waal presents Henry Moore in this new climate. After careful deliberation, we have all agreed that the best approach, which will allow more visitors to experience the exhibition fully, is to postpone the entire project until 2021.

We are pleased to confirm that This Living Hand will now open at Henry Moore Studios & Gardens on 31 March 2021 and will run, as intended, until 31 October 2021. We look forward to welcoming you to our gallery next year.
