'Ma' is a Japanese word roughly translated as "gap, "space", "pause" or "the space between two structural parts".
In this tour Chris will look at how a nature and aesthetics have been drawn together in Henry and Irina Moore's vision of the sculpture gardens. Starting in the traditional English Garden setting of Hoglands garden and progressing through our sculpture lawns, where nature starts to take over, Chris will look at the relationship between the sculptures in the grounds and their surrounding landscape. He will look at the secrets to success in siting sculpture, the use of space in sculpture and gardens, plus the concepts of negative space in Western Art and Ma in Japanese the Japanese Tradition.
Each of our Art & Landscape themed tours has been personally developed by the individual guide via Henry Moore Archive and independent research.
Art & Landscape tours are included in an admission ticket.
Tours will last around 60 to 90 minutes.
