Photography tours

As well as being a world renowned sculptor, Moore was an accomplished photographer; recording his work throughout his career both in the studio and in the landscape. Following a positive response in previous seasons, we are pleased to continue our tours concentrating on Moore and photography.

In these themed group tours group tours, our guide -  photographer and Moore expert Chris Overton -  will give a short talk on Henry Moore and his relationship with photography, looking at Moore’s own use of techniques, our archive of Moore’s life and sculpture photography in general. Groups will then have the chance to explore the sculpture gardens with Chris and take their own shots of our artworks and grounds.

Photography tours include a private talk, guided tour and tea & coffee.
Tickets are priced at £20 per person.

Chris Overton

Chris Overton has been a guide at Henry Moore Studios & Gardens for several years and met Henry Moore as a young man. Chris studied Creative Photography at the London College of Printing under Jorge Lewinski (photographer of artists such as Moore for The Observer newspaper) before embarking on a long career as an advertising photographer. He worked as an assistant for still life advertising photographer Mick Dean from 1973-76 before setting up his own studio and for the next twenty years he practiced as a still life photographer with clients such as Boots, Burberry, Honda Power Products, Lego, and Royal Mail.

Whilst Chris was mostly studio based he began to shoot increasingly on location and, after clients showed interest in his personal landscape pictures, the direction and focus of his work also changed. He began to concentrate on shooting cars both on location and in the studio for advertising and brochures. He worked for major car manufacturers including Audi, Bentley, Fiat, Honda, and Volkswagen. Chris has worked on location all over the world including in Scotland, France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Arizona, California and South Africa. He retired from professional photography in 2008 after a career spanning thirty-eight years. As one of our most experienced guides Chris offers photography groups a unique opportunity to understand Moore as a photographer and how to best shoot sculpture in the landscape.
