Rather than being the slow, peaceful animals he had imagined, he describes their behaviour in increasingly militaristic terms as he came to view them as little tanks.

'Panzer Leader' is situated in Ian Hamilton Finlay's family garden, known as Little Sparta, set in the Pentland Hills near Edinburgh.
