Henry Moore's Lithographs: with Stanley Jones and Auberon Hedgecoe

Stanley Jones, former Studio Director, and Auberon Hedgecoe look at Moore's lithographs and the relationship that he shared with The Curwen Studio.

Henry Moore had a life-long interest in printmaking; one of his earliest works was a linocut from c.1914. In 1958, Moore began a longstanding partnership with The Curwen Studio under the directorship of Stanley Jones, which produced some of his most recognisable and creative lithographs.

In this talk Stanley Jones and Auberon Hedgecoe will discuss this inventive and fruitful collaboration, which saw the development of innovative new lithographic printing techniques. Moreover, the Foundation’s relationship with Stanley and Auberon has been recently rekindled as the pair work with staff to restore the original aluminium lithographic plates. This event will provide a unique opportunity to hear from one of Moore’s most important collaborators and to see some of the restored plates from which these important artworks were made.

Stanley Jones is one of Britain's most esteemed printmakers. He led Curwen Studio until his retirement in 2003 and was awarded an MBE in 2009 for his services to the industry.

Auberon Hedgecoe is a lithographer working out of Huntingdon. He is the son of photographer John Hedgecoe, who worked closely with Henry Moore while Auberon was growing up.
