The exhibition title Gravity's Angel is designed to fasten attention on the properties of sculpture - its physical condition and its mental aspiration. Weight and light, matter and mind. Though sculpture cannot defy gravity, it can effect our transportation onto a spiritual plane.
The sculpture on show here makes these two things happen together, and, moreover, reveals their interconnection. While each artist has worked separately, their work is sympathetic to each other. Together they mark out ways of using and of seeing space.
With an introduction by Penelope Curtis (Curator of the Henry Moore Institute) and sections on each of the artists in the exhibition: Kirsten Ortwed, Lili Dujourie, Cristina Iglesias and Asta Gröting.
