Visiting

Disabled access information

Please note we are now closed until 3 April 2012.

We look forward to welcoming you to The Foundation.  Below are some detailed notes on the practicalities of visiting us if you are a wheelchair user, or have other special needs.  We are happy to discuss anything on the phone that will make your visit easier and more enjoyable: Tel 01279 843 333.

We have one motor scooter and one wheelchair for use around the estate, bookable free of charge in advance.  There is one other small wheelchair dedicated to use in Hoglands, Moore's house.

Notes for wheelchair users

Visitors should be advised that the studios and galleries have wheelchair access.  This access is based on a standard size wheelchair and a visitor who is accompanied by someone who can push.

Motorscooters may access the buildings if they are standard size (the same as our own) . The motor drive must be disconnected when inside and the scooter propelled manually by a carer.  If you have given us advance notice, a note will be made on your booking indicating that the ramp is required in order that the studio ramp is put outside the Bourne Maquette Studio in good time.

Hoglands access is unfortunately limited, although possible - see below - let us know when booking if you plan to visit Hoglands.   Access is via separate doors and we are happy to arrange this for you.

We have one small wheelchair available for visitors' use specially for Hoglands, as motor scooters cannot access the house.  The Top Studio has wheelchair access via separate doors.

Whenever possible we will arrange for a member of staff to provide a separate tour for special needs visitors. However, there are frequently times when wheelchair/scooter users will need to join a tour.  The wheelchair user will in this case be directed to the studios via the safest route, particularly behind Hoglands which has a minor slope.

A ramp is required to access the Bourne Maquette Studio - this will be made available when required and should be left outside.

Motor scooters must not be driven into the Bourne Maquette, the motor is to be disconnected and the scooter manually driven/steered.

The Sheep Field Barn may be accessed by small motor scooters manually driven/steered. The Yellow Brick Studio may be accessed by small motor scooters manually driven/steered. No ramp is required.

Wheelchair/scooter access to the Aisled Barn is via the small door which adjoins the car park.

On leaving the Aisled Barn please go across the grass or via the tarmac drive as the sloped, gravel drive is difficult to negotiate in a wheelchair.

We have two toilets at the Visitor's Centre one of which is suitable for the disabled.  There are another two toilets in the grounds next to the Maquette Studio and again one of these is suitable for the disabled.

Please do not hesitate to call us with any questions, or to ask any member of staff for help once you are on site.
