Henry Moore, l’atelier: sculpture et dessins will be the first major Moore retrospective held in Paris for over 30 years, and the opportunity to renew ties between Moore and the Musee Rodin. Past exhibitions of his work there include one held in the gardens of the Hotel Biron in 1956, and then two more in 1961 and 1971.
This exhibition will evoke the extraordinary studio at Perry Green, Hertfordshire, where Henry Moore worked, surrounded by pebbles, stones, bones, and found objects of all kinds gathered during his walks. All in all, the Musee Rodin will host more than 124 sculptures, including two monumental pieces and 20 reliefs, 48 drawings and three sketch books, all belonging to The Henry Moore Foundation.
The works will date from the 1930s to the 1980s, and will include two monumental outdoor works, and some of the famous second world-war Shelter Drawings.
The Foundation team has worked closely with the museum's team on all aspects of preparation, including the catalogue, and its conservation and curatorial team will install the exhibition.
