Creating a Maquette from a Found Object
Ash Class

Maquette made from plasticine and found objects
The starting points for many of Moore's sculptures were small sketch models known as maquettes, often inspired by found objects such as bones, stones and shells to which the artist would add clay, plaster or plasticine as he built up the sculptural form.
Ash Class made a plaster relief by pressing their found objects in to a clay mould. Plaster was then poured into the mould and students discussed the positive forms created in the set cast. They then went on to make a plasticine maquette which incorporated their found objects.
