The Madonna and Child was carved in brown Hornton Stone at the bequest of Sir Jasper Ridley as a memorial to his son and the villagers of Claydon, Suffolk, killed in the Second World War. The carving was moved in 1978 to St Mary’s, Barham, when St Peter’s church in Claydon became redundant.
