The portrait bust is a much-neglected form, despite its long historic prestige.  This catalogue invites us to look more closely at a formula, which could, in fact, provide licence for a range of subtle and inventive variation.  Specially commissioned photography takes us close to some of the key decisions made by sculptors represented here, and focuses on the treatment of eyes, skin and musculature as well on the choices made in the overall design.  Exhibition produced in collaboration with the National Portrait Gallery and Scottish National Portrait Gallery.  Essays by Malcolm Baker and John Gage.  Selected and introduced by Penelope Curtis, Peter Funnell, and Nicola Kalinsky.
