The 2009 Visitor Season will be the first ever opportunity for visitors to Moore's former home at Perry Green to see eight beautiful tapestries on loan from the Henry Moore Family Collection.

This series of tapestries is based on a group of drawings made by Moore in the mid-late 1970s. Unlike the rich and vibrant hues of many of Moore's other tapestries, these have a distinctively muted palette in greys and pinks. The drawings that these tapestries were based on were originally made using pastel, charcoal, watercolour and gouache on blotting paper; the paper was then gently immersed in water allowing the media to disperse over the textured surface of the paper.

Expertly woven at West Dean in Chichester, the distinctive markings from his drawing technique have been effectively translated into each tapestry with a variety of hand-dyed wools. They are hung in a medieval timbered Aisled Barn where the tapestries can be quietly contemplated individually or as a group. Most of the subjects are mother and children - one of the predominant themes Moore reworked throughout his career. More than a study of the relationship of two forms, the mother and child theme provided a means to convey the artist's humanist approach to art - it could withstand the limits of time and international boundaries and appeal to a fundamental aspect of mankind.

Admission to the tapestry displays in the Aisled Barn is included in the main entry ticket to Perry Green.
