The Henry Moore Institute is a partnership between the Henry Moore Foundation and Leeds City Council, set up as a centre for the study of sculpture in the city where Moore began his training as a sculptor.
It is a multi-layered building, with a programme comprising three integrated elements: Collections, Exhibitions and Research.
The study of sculpture can mean many things, and the Institute aims to replicate this diversity. Our programme is based upon an enquiry into the nature of sculpture, and it aims to enlarge the understanding of how sculpture makes meaning, at different times, and in different places.
The programme draws on artists, writers, curators and different kinds of historians, in discussions, in writing, in research projects and in exhibitions:
- On the public stage of the conference or gallery
- In the semi-public space of the library or workshop
- Or in the semi-private space of the fellowship or conversation
